why we do it
It’s about relationships! That’s what makes the internet so powerful and so important. Simply put, the internet is about real people with real stories talking to other real people with different real stories. The power of the internet is lies in helping to build relationships, not just in flashier marketing information.
To the extent that a web-site can help a real person connect quicker, easier with another real person, then that web-site will be used. On the other hand, web-sites that are merely glorified on-line brochures will quickly become unused.
Back in 1999, a few pioneers wrote a book called The Cluetrain Manifesto. In this book, they wrote their own “95 Theses”. The first one was simply: “Markets are Conversations.”
That’s the power of the web - markets are now conversations. Real human beings can connect with the real humans behind that huge company. Conversations are happening, thanks to the internet.
