I think this is probably everybody’s dream. I think it might even be why some people become comptuer – work – at – home kind of people. Just think about it. I can really work from the beach????

Danny Outlaw posted a interesting article about how he plans to really do this – to work form the beaches in Costa Rica.

WordPress Better Visual Editor

OK, I’m still on this WordPress Content Management kick….

I was a little frustrated by the cripple TinyMCE editor in wordpress. So, I did some searching and found out that we can add back in just about any of the functions that we want.

Here’s a link to the article…

More Thoughts on Using Word Press as a CMS

Posted by Eric on January 3, 2008  |   No Comments »

I’ve been working at using Word-Press – the defacto blogging software – as a CMS. Just in case you don’t know… A CMS is a Content Management System. It is a way to let people update their sites without having to know HTML and other languages. A true CMS can do a lot more, but this is the baiscs – letting people edit their own content.

I’m powering my site on WordPress and have been thrilled.

But, just lately I have found some more enhancements that make it even more powerful. Here’s just a few:

custom login – lets the log in screen be customized to look like the client web site

custom admin – again let the admin area be customized with logos, etc.

Search Everything – lets WP search all pages – not just posts. This lets the static pages be searched.

E-Commerce – this was really cool. I added some basic e-commerce functionality to a WP powered site. Nothing super advanced here. If I needed a powerful store, I’d still go with something like Zen-Cart. But this was awesome!

There a great list of the needed plug-ins here:

Jott?

One of my favorite new web apps – sites is Jott.com.

I signed up for an account a couple of weeks ago and, unlike a lot of other “cool” things I sign up for, I actually find myself using this one.

Here’s the deal. You sign up for an account – verify your e-mail and at least one phone number. Then you can call Jott, say you want to leave a jott for me (or other people that you put in your address book) and then leave a message for yourself. The message is automatically transcribed and delivered to your e-mail within 10 or so minutes.

So, say you are on the road and have a really great idea, or want to remind yourself about some detail from a meeting you just left. Rather than having to scrounge around for a scrap of paper, now you just call Jott, leave a message for yourself, and it shows up in your inbox, completely transcribed.

Of course, should you need to, you can click on a link to hear the message as well, just in case the transcription got something wrong.

I was at a friend’s house the other night. He wanted us and another friend to get together for a cup of coffee the next day. I didn’t have my calendar with me, so I used Jott. The next morning, when I check my e-mail – there was the jott, waiting for me as a reminder.

It really is cool. You’ll have to check it out.
