how we do it – process

EH Design & Consulting's 4 Step Web Development Process

“You can have anything you want in this life, as long as you help enough other people get what they want”
(Zig Ziglar)

At EH Design & Consulting we think that Zig was on to something. Maybe if we spent more time focusing on helping others get what they want, we would get what we want as well.

What if a web development and consulting company worked this way? What would it look to like to worry more about helping our clients and friends get what they want and less time worrying about our own bottom line? What would it look like to build relationships instead of contacts? What would it look like to solve problems and provide solutions instead of just completing projects?

At EH Design & Consulting, we do more than just build websites.  We follow a unique 4 step process focused on creating a site that meets your goals and advances your business.

Step #1: Target

EH Design & Consulting 4 Step Web Development Process - Step #1: Target The first step is creating a web-site is to think target the site.  During this phase, EH Design & Consulting works together with clients to think through critical questions that will focus the site.  We walk you through various exercises designed to help you focus and answer questions such as:

  • what is your web site’s purpose?
  • who is your site’s target audience?
  • why are they visiting your site?
  • what need is hoping to be met?
  • what words would your target audience type in to a search engine to meet this need?
  • what is your single most important call to action?

Answers to these questions allow us to begin the planning process (step #2).

Step #2: Plan

EH Design & Consulting 4 Step Web Development Process - Step #2: Plan Now that we have an understanding of who we are reaching, what are call to action is, and why people are visiting our site, it is time to develop a plan.   Based on all this information, what pages will we need?  What functions will the site need to perform?  How are we going to reach our to your target audience.

Typically, during this phase, we work with client to:

  • gather / create any pre-existing marketing collateral (logos, letterheads, etc.)
  • create a sitemap
  • create a site flowchart for features and functions
  • create a style guide to be applied to all marketing elements

It is only after we have defined our target and created a plan that we want to starting building the site (step #3)

Step #3: Build

EH Design & Consulting 4 Step Web Development Process - Step #3: Build After clearly defining our target and creating a plan that will reach this target, now we are ready to build the site.  Typically this building process is divided into three basic phases: design, development, and deployment.

During the first phase (design), we focus on what the site will look like.  The colors, the fonts, the basic look and feel.  After the basic design phase, we move into the development phase.  During this time, EH Design & Consulting creates the actual pages, the actual features of the site.  The final phase, deployment, involves taking the site live and testing the final product.

During this entire step, we see elements such as:

  • basic site mock-up
  • review and revision process
  • page create
  • functions / feature creation (coding)
  • content, images, and copy creation

After this phase is over, the site is live to the world.  This allows us to now focus on promoting the site (step #4)

Step 4: Promote

EH Design & Consulting 4 Step Web Development Process - Step #4: Promote The final phase is the promotion phase.  During this time, we use the keywords and target audience defined in step #1, to target your site for Search engines – making sure your site can be found by your target audience.  We also focus on social media to help promote you site – using services such as facebook, twitter, youtube, and other to help spread the word about your site.

During this time we find ourselves:

  • modifing content per search engine terms (identified in step 1)
  • submitting to search engines
  • creating links on other sites
  • creating and implements social media strategy
  • providing training  on content management system for content updates
